The QS by Subject ranking is produced by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, an international higher education analytics company. The 2024 ranking looked at 55 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. A total of nearly 1,600 educational institutions from 149 countries were assessed.
The ranking took into account 5 indicators, attributing different weights to each depending on the discipline. Top universities across the globe were rated with regard to their scholarly renown, their reputation as an employer based on the opinion polls among academics and employers conducted by QS. The remaining criteria included bibliometric indicators (citation counts per article, H-index), and the IRN-index, an indicator reflecting institutional ability to geographically diversify its research by forming sustainable research collaborations with other higher education institutions.
