Research achievements
Dr Rafał Kasikowski, Eng., from the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering at Lodz University of Technology, is a specialist in power electronics and the design of high-efficiency systems. His academic background includes a Master’s degree, completed with distinction, from the University of East Anglia, and a PhD, also defended with distinction, from Lodz University of Technology. His scientific achievements include publications in prestigious journals such as IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, and co-authorship of patent no. 248339 concerning an innovative method and system for measuring the optical power of LEDs. Currently, he leads the prestigious LIDER XV research and development project funded by the National Centre for Research and Development, and previously successfully achieved the objectives of the MINIATURA 6 project funded by the National Science Centre.
Research profile and research directions
Dr Kasikowski’s research focuses on minimizing energy losses and increasing power density in energy conversion devices. He designs compact switchmode power converter modules and utilizes modern semiconductor technologies such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). In his research work, he focuses on the implementation and development of advanced converter topologies, such as Totem-Pole PFC and resonant topologies, including solutions dedicated to wireless power transfer systems, with consideration of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) aspects. His research supports sustainable development goals in energy efficiency and industrial innovation.
Collaboration industry, implementation and expertise
He combines a rigorous approach to circuit theory with extensive industrial experience gained in the UK, where he worked as a switch-mode power supply design engineer at companies such as TT Electronics Plc and Aim TTi. His dedication allows him to deliver technologies that enable more efficient management of energy transmission in modern industrial systems. Dr Kasikowski strengthens the potential of Lodz University of Technology, supporting the university in building a leading position in the transfer of
modern energy technologies to the economy.
