Accreditation

There are two types of programme accreditation for universities of technology in Poland. The first one is the state mandatory accreditation conducted by the Polish Accreditation Committee (Polska Komisja Akredytacyjna, PKA). The second one is voluntary accreditation conducted by the Accreditation Commission of Universities of Technology (Komisja Akredytacyjna Uczelni Technicznych, KAUT). The faculty itself applies for this accreditation at its discretion.

  • The Polish Accreditation Committee (Polska Komisja Akredytacyjna, PKA) is an independent institution aimed at improvement of the quality of education in all public and non-public higher education institutions. It is authorized to conduct (obligatory) assessment of compliance with the requirements necessary to provide education and evaluation of its quality. The PKA activity is financed from the state budget and HEIs undergoing the process of assessment do not pay any fee. The negative assessment of the Committee may cause suspension or withdrawal of authorization to run degree programmes in a given field of study and at a given level of study on the basis of a decision of the minister responsible for higher education. During the term of suspension, the unit cannot enrol students and it is requested to introduce corrective measures.

  • The Accreditation Commission of Universities of Technology (Komisja Akredytacyjna Uczelni Technicznych, KAUT) was established by the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities of Technology in 2001. Its main objective is to identify these universities and programmes that offer education of the highest quality. The KAUT accreditation may be requested solely by the units which have obtained a positive programme assessment conducted by the Polish Accreditation Commission (PKA). KAUT is authorized by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) to grant, along with standard KAUT accreditation, the European EUR-ACE® Label Certificate.
