Science in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The latest major research projects

Developing a production technology of large-area HSMG® and building a high-efficiency production process is one of the primary research projects. Graphene fabricated at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering has been fully characterized and functionalized in view of its applications in composites, sensors (atmosphere, temperature etc.) and hydrogen storage. The results of the research made it possible for the technology to be transferred via a contribution in kind to Advanced Graphene Products Sp. z o.o.

The Faculty's scientists are also engaged in important research projects on environment protection. They have developed a technology of mercury capture from flue gas from lignite-fired power plants. As a result of this research a pilot line was designed and constructed at Bełchatów Power Station.

Results of innovative research have also been applied to medicine, an example of which is the development and implementation of the technology of orthopaedic implant surface modification by deposition of carbon/silicon layers. The technology was used in the production of intramedullary nails, orthopaedic (bone) screws, stabilizers etc. The products have undergone a complete research cycle and are now marketed internationally.
