Creating low permeable layers of hydrophobized sand obtained by modifying natural sand with eco-friendly water emulsions of alkoxysilanes

Hydrophobization of sand is a process aimed to obtain the ability of water permeable natural soil particles to start blocking the permeation of water into pores.

The technology, designed and developed by the Team of Geotechnics and Engineering Structures, enables the creation of non-permeable layers of hydrophobized sand. Hydrophobized sand is characterized by zero capillarity and low permeability. Loose soil achieves similar low water permeability as non-permeable cohesive soils, maintaining at the same time, the excellent mechanical and strength parameters of sand.

This technology is intended for application in the building industry.
