Concluding my service as the rector, I would like to thank my closest associates - the vice-rectors, deans councils, senior management. Thereby I express my gratitude for your complete professionalism, commitment, and dedication to the betterment of our university. Lodz University of Technology is a community of almost three thousand employees. I thank each of you for your ongoing efforts.
The heart and soul of the university are its students. I am pleased that TUL is so frequently selected by the next generations of young people. I am proud to witness as they develop their passions and personalities within the walls of the university, and embark on their professional careers. Providing the best possible environment for students, I have striven to ensure effective teaching and learning and to promote physical education.
At the beginning of my tenure, I was aware of the need to strengthen internationalization at TUL. I am glad that the brand of Lodz University of Technology holds a reputation in the international environment, with further international accreditations and ratings in global rankings being the best acknowledgement of the growing importance of the university in higher education worldwide.
I would like to give praise to the scientists whose work and projects I have championed. I have welcomed news of their successes in group and individual competitions.
Before I was elected rector, I worked as a vice-rector and earlier as a dean, which allowed me to learn about the life of the university from different perspectives. I have used my experience to build up an increasingly strong standing of Lodz University of Technology, which has been reflected in the growing number of partnerships and socially important undertakings. One of them has doubtless been the launch of the pilot 5G network at our campus. It is a proof of trust and appreciation.
I am convinced that the future will bring many reasons to take pride in the accomplishments of the members of the academic community of TUL. I have a great sense of satisfaction that we offer our students and employees modern facilities where they can successfully work on their projects. With admiration, we have been watching changes taking place at our campus change: the Sports Bay, the headquarters of the university IT Center, and now the construction of Alchemium drawing to a close, to name just a few. A walk around the university grounds makes you proud and is truly a pleasure.
To be sure, the past term of office has not been without its challenges. Certainly, the reform of science and higher education counts as one. Thank you much, Academic Community of our Alma Mater, for your support, solidarity, and collaboration in bringing about changes. I am well aware that some decisions may have necessitated finding a compromise, yet I am confident that they will be of benefit to the university in the future as well.
The recent time has proved extremely demanding in all areas of life. The pandemic, which we could not have expected, also affected the operation of the university, altered the priorities. Thank you for your efforts that made it possible for us to carry on and complete our tasks well. I have confidence that this experience will help us grow stronger. Lodz University of Technology is a modern university which creates innovation. Owing to the methods and techniques of distance learning developed over the years, we have been able to switch to e-learning so efficiently and effectively while confronting the constraints imposed by the outbreak.
I am not bidding you farewell as I shall remain part of this university. I will share my experience and knowledge to support TUL wherever there is a need and opportunity. Thank you for entrusting me with the leadership of Lodz University of Technology four years ago.
In my heart I hold beautiful memories, for which I shall be deeply grateful to you all.
