Collaborative project of the Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital Research Institute and Lodz University of Technology

Nearly 12 million zloty was received by Lodz University of Technology and the Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital Research Institute to build a medical database and develop modern diagnostics.

Lodz University of Technology, which is the leader in the project, with its know-how and with the aid of the medical database operated by the hospital, will develop a useful and technologically advanced virtual platform.

 - Digital technology is redefining the standards of professional work. The database developed in the project will be available for use in biometric analyses, teaching and learning, professional development of medical practitioners, and for statistics. Additionally, it will be an exceptional resource of popular science information for the general public – said prof. dr hab. inż. Sławomir Wiak, Rector of TUL,  who coordinates the project.

The outcome of the project will be a single database pooling medical data and modern diagnostics - at least 1 000 400 medical data points. Before it becomes available, the data will be digitized, anonymized, sorted, structured, described with metadata.

Professor Maciej Banach, Director of ICZMP, explained:

- The project will contribute, among other things, to the development of oncology and rare disease diagnostics, facilitating further research on these medical conditions. A virtual platform with this large amount of data responds to the problem of difficult or virtually impossible digital access to valuable and rare medical data, e.g. on histopathology.

The project Virtual platform for medical data and modern diagnostics MDB-MEDICAL DATA BANK (Wirtualna platforma danych medycznych oraz nowoczesnej diagnostyki MDB-MEDICAL DATA BANK) will be carried out under the Operational Program Digital Poland 2014-2020. A grant of 11 644 025.96 zł has been awarded  as a result of the call for proposals announced for the submeasure Digital access to public sector information from administration and scientific resources. The project will run from 1 June 2020 to 31 May 2023.
