Dr Jakub Maciej Surmacki

Dr Jakub Surmacki (FWCI: 1.48; International cooperation: 25%). His research concerns early detection of neoplastic changes with modern optical methods. It includes studies on: indication of Raman markers of neoplastic changes in human breast gland and lung tissue, determination of the effect of photosensitizers on the vibration spectra of ex-vivo tissues (application of sensitizers in photodynamic therapy to destroy neoplastic tissue), detection of trace concentrations of organic substances (single molecules) by strengthening the Raman scattering signal achieved by the use of nano-metallic particles; production of silver nano-particles by chemical reduction, analysis of normal and neoplastic cell lines of the human gland.

Post-doctoral scientific internship at Cavendish Laboratory and Cancer Research UK at the University of Cambridge.

He has participated in foreign and Polish research projects, including the 7th Framework Programme, the Cancer Research UK grant, and National Science Centre (Poland) grants.
