Polymer ceramising composites for application in special purpose fire fighting installations

The process of polymer composite ceramisation consists of the formation of ceramic sinter layer on its surface in high temperature conditions. The sinter creates a barrier, protecting the polymer from degradation.

The sinter also prevents flammable substances formed as a result of thermal polymer degradation from spreading and impedes the access of oxygen to the burning zone.

The currently applicable legal regulations concerning the fire protection of buildings and the large scale of industrial and power investments systematically increase demand for cables and wires with a higher safety level.

The technology, designed and developed at the Institute, makes use of a polymer composite ceramisation process, thus enabling the production of cables and wires which may supply installations and devices at buildings or objects with more stringent fireprotection requirements.

This technology will be applied in production of electric cables and wires.
