Professor Łukasz Kaczmarek is the director of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering TUL. Having graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of Lodz University of Technology in 2002, he was among 5% of the top graduates. After graduating from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Lodz University of Technology in 2006, he received his doctoral degree with honours. Four years later he received his Master of Science diploma in the field of Science and Technology Commercialization of the International Management Studies, conducted jointly by the University of Lodz and the University of Texas at Austin. In 2013 he received his doctoral degree habilitated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of TUL.
Professor Kaczmarek conducts research on, among other things, flake graphene production and methods of its functioning. In this area he mainly focuses on the technology of manufacturing nanocomposite materials, as well as the possibilities of hydrogen storage, creation of protein structures on graphite as biological sensors, water filtration phenomena, interaction with the matrix of the composite. Another area of interest is functional materials based on Al alloys, produced in hybrid technology.
He cooperates with universities in France, Russia and Ukraine. As a visiting professor at St. Petersburg Polytechic University he lectures on nanotechnology. Currently, together with the Bauman Moscow State Technical University creates a cluster of advanced composite materials.
He is the author of numerous publications presented at world conferences. He has been the manager of 4, and the contractor of 16 research projects. He coordinated an international project to develop a lightweight robot arm for use in zero gravity conditions. He has co-authored 10 patents, including 3 American and submitted 7 patent applications.
He is a co-founder of a spin off company Advanced Graphene Products Sp. z o.o., which produces and modifies large surface graphene.
For his efforts Łukasz Kaczmarek has been awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit. He has also received 5 awards from the Minister of Science and Higher Education, an Economic Award and 20 international awards.
Outside of his professional career, he pursues sports passions: skiing, squash, and recently windsurfing. In his free time he indulges in literature, his favourite authors include: Stephen King, Peter James, Brian Haig, John le Carre, Dmitry Glukhovsky and recently Guillaume Musso.
