The Open Day, organized by the Faculty of Chemistry for the third time, presented chemistry not only as a science, but also as an aid to understanding the world and making informed decisions. Chemistry plays a tremendous role in everyday life and bears on social progress.

Chemistry is also relevant when it comes to business. The Open Day was attended by 100 people from more than 25 companies and businesses from a range of industries. TUL Faculty of Chemistry is very well regarded among employers. They appreciate the standard of the training it provides. In fact, they offer work placements and traineeships to our students, and later, employment opportunities. According to the reports of our business partners, the demand for chemists across industries has been growing. 'I am glad that we can cooperate with you, talk about important issues, including student education', said Vice-Rector for Science prof. Łukasz Albrecht at the inauguration of the Open Day.

About 500 students from 11 schools from Łódź and the region visited the Alchemium facility. The Open Day serves to connect prospective and current university students. This direct interaction between the young people is the added value of the event.

'We have prepared many attractive offerings for you today,’ said prof. Małgorzata Iwona Szynkowska-Jóźwik, Dean of the Faculty, addressing the attendees. 'In line with the theme of the Open Day, we wish you to experience a spark of chemistry between you and chemistry. I hope for you to get out as many positive impressions as possible today and come back as students of Lodz University of Technology.’

Student visitors enjoyed 'Chemical Express', a field game showcasing the Faculty's labs, with an engaging storyline packed full with riddles to solve - chemical ones, of course.
The slogan 'Feel chemistry with chemistry' is clearly well-understood by the students engaged in student research groups. They showed off their projects, and, during a poster session 'Alchemi[str]y', presented their research and research findings.

The most interesting posters depicting research were awarded by companies and the Faculty. Adamed funded two equal prizes for Magda Walczak and Katarzyna Kołecka. Atlas granted an award to Dawid Szymborski. Delia distinguished Alicja Mitura, Katarzyna Mordaka, and Aneta Malicka. Other awards were presented to Weronika Olejniczak (Eurofins), Paulina Kozieł (Galvo), Kamila Rułka (Orlen), Agata Mrozek (Saint Gobain), and Jakub Lewandowski (Trimen).

The Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, prof. Małgorzata Iwona Szynkowska-Jóźwik, presented awards to three students, selected by the deliberating jury: Weronika Wolna, Weronika Łukasiuk and Zofia Kornatowska (the grand prize). The choice was not easy, as there were 80 posters to be judged, filling the hall on the 1st floor of the building.

The Open Day, organized on all floors of the Alchemium (as well as outdoors - the field game), was an undertaking that succeeded thanks to the work of many individuals associated with the Faculty. 'I would like to thank everyone - the staff and students - who worked to make this day a celebration of the Faculty,' Dean Małgorzata Iwona Szynkowska-Jóźwik stated and extended an invitation ‘to the next, Fourth Open Day of the Faculty of Chemistry at the new laboratories in the Alchemium building.’

The event concluded with a screening of a movie  showing the second stage of the construction of the Alchemium building, prepared by dr inż. Michal Bińczarski.
