The procedure for recognizing an academic degree as equivalent to the appropriate Polish academic degree is regulated by Ordinance No. 33/2022 of the Rector of Lodz University of Technology of May 24, 2022 on determining the detailed procedure for the nostrification of academic degrees awarded abroad and the conditions and procedure for exemption from the fee for the nostrification procedure.

A person interested in nostrification of an academic degree is obliged to submit the required documents to the Science Support Center of Lodz University of Technology, at ul. Żeromskiego 116, 90-924 Łódź, bud. A27, floor 4, room CH-3, tel. 42 631 20 44, rncwn@adm.p.lodz.pl (on business days 8.00 a.m. - 3.00 p.m.) together with the application for nostrification procedure - downloadable below.

The following documents (or certified copies thereof) should be attached to the application:

In the case of an application for recognition of a degree conferred abroad as equivalent to a Polish doctoral degree:

  • a diploma confirming the awarding of that degree,

  • documents constituting the basis for awarding that degree,


  • a completion of studies diploma entitling the applicant to apply for the degree for which recognition is sought.

In the case of an application for recognition of a degree conferred abroad as equivalent to the Polish degree of doktor habilitowany:

  • a diploma confirming the award of this degree,

  • documents confirming scientific achievements constituting the basis for awarding this degree,

  • a diploma confirming the award of an academic degree authorizing to initiate proceedings for the award of the academic degree for which the recognition is sought.

Copies of documents constituting required attachments to the application, submitted in English, do not require additional translation into Polish. For documents submitted in another foreign language, the University requires a standard translation into Polish.

The date of the initiation of the procedure is the date of delivery of the application together with all required attachments referred to in the aforementioned Ordinance. If formal deficiencies are found in an application, the applicant is given a deadline, no shorter than 14 days, to supplement it, under pain of leaving the application unprocessed.

The applicant is obliged to constantly monitor the progress of the nostrification process and stay in contact with the University by e-mail, telephone or in person.

The fee for conducting the nostrification procedure is 50% of the professor's remuneration specified in the regulations on the minimum basic remuneration for a professor at a public university. The fee is payable within 14 days from the date of initiation of the nostrification procedure.

The Vice-Rector for Science may exempt an applicant from paying the fee in whole or in part. The applicant is obliged to submit a written application for exemption from the fee in whole or in part, which constitutes Appendix No. 4 to the aforementioned Ordinance, together with justification and documented special circumstances not allowing the payment of the fee.

The fee shall be paid regardless of the outcome of the nostrification procedure.

The nostrification procedure takes no longer than 90 days from the date of submission of an application meeting the formal requirements. In the case of a positive decision, the Vice-Rector for Science issues an appropriate certificate, which is issued by the TUL Science Support Centre.
