The task of the Student Ombudsperson is to assist TUL students in solving individual and group problems related to their education, in particular in situations of violation of their rights, and to carry out other activities to raise the standards of treatment of students at Lodz University of Technology.

The Student Ombudsperson is guided by the principles of confidentiality, impartiality and neutrality, non-formality, voluntariness and good faith in performing his tasks.

The Student Ombudsperson provides help by:

  • receiving grievances, complaints, requests from students and staff. Making interventions. Mediating in conflict situations between students and teachers, administrative staff or other students, aiming to resolve conflicts amicably;
  • counselling students on their rights and responsibilities and informing students of appeals, disciplinary and academic procedures.

Examples of the range of issues that may be reported to the Student Ombudsperson:

  • •    student relations/conflicts with administrative staff;
    •    student relations/conflicts with lecturers, thesis supervisors;
    •    student problems related to the schedule of classes, credits and examinations;
    •    student problems related to the diploma process;
    •    student problems related to decisions taken in the course of studies - repetition of classes and expulsion from studies, leaves of absence, internships, etc.;
    •    other issues related to the study rules;
    •    problems related to the student's use of material aid and accommodation at the TUL Residential Campus;
    •    disciplinary violations;
    •    the occurrence of psychological abuse suffered by a student;
    •    resolution of disputes between students.

The Student Ombudsperson ensures standards of student treatment by:

  • monitoring the occurrence and rectification of systemic problems related to the observance of the rights of TUL students;
  • issuing opinions on internal draft normative acts concerning the educational process and student affairs;
  • initiating measures to improve the situation of students by proposing changes to university regulations and monitoring the implementation of regulations concerning students;
  • conducting, in cooperation with persons holding managerial positions at the University, administrative staff, student government, student organizations, activities aimed at disseminating knowledge about the rights of persons studying at TUL

Reporting problems to the Student Ombudsperson:

  • the Student Ombudsperson is guided by the principle of confidentiality and protection of the interests of the person raising the issue and other persons associated with the issue raised;
  • the Student Ombudsperson accepts grievance information of personal matters in writing only;
  • the Student Ombudsperson does not accept anonymous complaints of problems, especially those concerning specific individuals.
     

Letters reporting irregularities to the Student Ombudsperson can be:

  • sent electronically from the postal address of the university's TUL email system to the email address: ombud@adm.p.lodz.pl 

or

  • submitted in person to the Student Ombudsperson’s office by a deadline agreed by phone or e-mail.
