Dear Members of the University Community

At the opening of a new year, we feel the urge to think about what lies ahead. However, any future is inevitably rooted in the times past. Lodz University of Technology’s recent history has been highlighted with many successful developments that have resulted from sustained efforts beyond the last 12 months.

As we step into 2024, I wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to students, doctoral candidates and staff of our university for your commitment and your contributions.

Our high ranking among the universities in Poland is ensured by the outcome of the evaluation, as well as the number of European grants we acquired. TUL’s rate of successful submissions to Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe framework programs is higher than the average for Poland and Europe. Our researchers enjoy a large number of publications, including those with scores exceeding 100. 42 of Lodz University of Technology scientists are included in the list of the world's most influential researchers, and that number has grown since the previous year.

We have further relations with universities across the world (Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, as well as in Europe) and we intend to strengthen them through strategic partnerships and direct academic cooperation and exchange agreements.

We have consistently refined our curricula and further developed the University education quality assurance system. Our efforts have been validated by PKA accreditation, as well as KAUT accreditation, which is equivalent to a European certificate of quality, of a large number of our degree programs. We have also secured funding for further advancement, under the FIRST program.

We have successfully completed multi-year programs intended to enhance the functioning of Lodz University of University (ZPU1, 2, and 3, Dostępna Politechnika Łódzka; and projects: Centrum Mistrzostwa Informatycznego, Cyfrowa Gmina, and PAKT). We have used the funding received from the EU to conduct training courses for our staff, students, and school students, as well as to develop the university's infrastructure, furnish the facilities and teaching rooms.

We have been changing the campus grounds. Building A7 is now a modern and sustainable facility, having undergone a complete renovation. The laboratories of the Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering will soon be coming home, and the Center for Universal Design will open its doors there. TUL Preschool and Day Care have been welcoming the youngest members of our community: children of our staff, students, and doctoral candidates. The utility building at the TUL Sailing Depot in Roganty has been completely rehabilitated. Last but not least, the 3rd Residence Hall and the building that used to house the Papermaking and Printing Center, and which now also accommodates the Faculty of Organization and Management, have also been fully revitalized.

Drawing largely from external funding, we have had solar photovoltaic panels installed on the campus to reduce the cost of the electricity we consume. We have also been upgrading lighting and heating systems, and installing cameras to monitor the University grounds. All these measures have helped us to reduce our operating costs.

Lodz University of Technology has been increasingly internationally visible as reflected by our inclusion in a number of world rankings. In those in which we were previously featured, we have moved up. At the same time, we have also been featured in further new ones. That demonstrates that our performance has been recognized as highly relevant by the experts compiling the rankings. Furthermore, Lodz University of Technology holds a high position among the universities that are committed to sustainable development. Indeed, our report shows how much all of us have done in this regard.

Esteemed Colleagues and Students

I have listed several highlights of our recent performance. May 2024 be a prosperous year for Lodz University of Technology and one that brings further advancements.
Above all, may all members of our university community enjoy good health and succeed in fulfilling not just your professional goals but all of your dreams and hopes.

Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik
