CoARA is an initiative of the European University Association, Science Europe and the European Commission, whose aim is to develop best practices in the assessment of scientific research based on the responsible use of bibliometric indicators, as well as qualitative assessment and analysis of other forms of scientific activity.

- CoARA is a very important group for the reform of the system of scientific research evaluation, bringing together not only universities, but various centres related to science, research and its financing,' says the Rector of TUL, 'This international coalition unites 300 centres, including 34 from Poland. Respecting the autonomy of each organisation, we want to work out common rules for defining success in science so that the role of each researcher and his or her contribution are properly appreciated. For Lodz University of Technology, membership of the Coalition is significant in terms of cooperation with institutions from all over the world, especially in terms of sharing best practices in research evaluation, mutual learning and influencing the direction in which this evaluation will develop.

At the inaugural meeting, the coalition members voted, among other things, to adopt the founding documents, and elected the chair and 10 members of the Steering Committee. Professor Rianne Letschert, Rector of Maastricht University, from the Netherlands, was elected Chair.
