Three criteria were adopted in the system of evaluation of disciplines. The third of them is connected with presenting a "case study", which makes it possible to assess the relationship between scientific research conducted at the university and, for example, the quality of life of various groups of people, development of the economy, development of culture or the state of the natural environment. The new competition announced in April by Rector, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, and coordinated by the University Office for Development was aimed at selecting model studies.
The Competition Commission, chaired by Prof. Michał Strzelecki, received 24 entries. The best of them were additionally sent to foreign reviewers.

The leaders of the winning teams had the opportunity to present their studies. Each of the winning descriptions concerned a different discipline. The diversity of the presented scientific achievements and, above all, the ways of presenting evidence of their positive impact on the national and international scale turned out to be very broad. The presentations gave rise to an interesting discussion led by Prof. Łukasz Kaczmarek.

The conference was summed up by Prof. Łukasz Albrecht, Vice-Rector for Science, who emphasised that this meeting will initiate a series of subsequent ones, which will further intensify the already advanced preparations of Lodz University of Technology for the next year's evaluation of scientific disciplines.
