SKN Druku 3D (Student Science Organization 3D Printing) was formed by the second-year Automation and Robotics students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Its goals include bringing together students interested in 3D printing, learning and advancing knowledge about additive technologies and the materials used in them, planning and developing manufacturing processes, and presenting their projects at scientific conferences.

President of the SKN Druku 3D Miłosz Ugorny tolds us, We aim to advance 3D printing technology and thereby change the future for the better.

The SSO had their debut during the open days of the Lodz University of Technology and it also promoted the university at the Mikołaj Kopernik High School No. 3 in Kalisz.

For now, the group's major focus is on recycling waste generated during 3D printing and processing unwanted objects made of plastic to fabricate a filament that will allow useful aesthetically pleasing everyday items to be printed. The organization received funding to carry out its first project from the Micro-Grants Program of the Foundation of TUL.

The members of the research group have plans to upgrade their equipment with additional printers. We are looking for funding sources that would allow us to carry out our projects and to purchase new printers so we could, for example, print prototypes of metal prostheses or give life to wood chips, Jakub Wisniewski, secretary to the organization, said.

In late March, a new laboratory was officially opened, which will soon serve as a laboratory where classes in a new course in 3D printing, currently introduced into the curricula, will be conducted.

The laboratory was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, professor Tomasz Kubiak. Dr inż. Paulina Byczkowska, supervisor of the SKN Druku 3D, remarked, I am really pleased to have the opportunity to work with the students who are full of initiative and driven to achieve. For an organization that has officially been operating for just under a month to have a number of promotional events and a research grant under their belt is rather impressive. And they've only just begun.
