President Andrzej Duda has conferred the title of professor of engineering sciences in the discipline of materials engineering on dr. hab. inż. Jacek Sawicki, of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Lodz University of Technology. The decision was signed on December 21, 2022.

Prof. Jacek Sawicki graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and is a specialist in materials engineering. He places particular importance on research with implementation potential and on cooperation with industry. He has authored licenses and technological implementations and is an expert in pre-implementation technological and economic audits. As a co-author of innovations, he has been awarded an impressive number of medals and prizes. The President of the Council of Ministers distinguished prof. Sawicki with an honorary merit badge for his outstanding contribution to the protection of industrial property and the advancement of innovation in Poland.

Research interests

Prof. Sawicki's main research interests include numerical methods in materials engineering, algorithms for prediction and minimization of heat-treatment deformations, and expert systems for the support, regulation, and management of technological processes. He also designs technologies that involve advanced methods of mechanical, thermo-chemical and machining processing, as well as 3D printing.

Research activity

Prof. Sawicki has worked at Lodz University of Technology since 2001, receiving his doctoral degree in 2003 and his postdoctoral degree in 2013. He has held internships at ECAM de Lyon (France) and the Technical University of Liberec (Czech Republic).

He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed articles and delivered more than 80 co-authored presentations at national and international conferences. He has co-authored 9 patents and 4 patent applications. He has sold 5 non-exclusive licenses.  He has been in charge of 2 national research grants, 6 research groups in the EU POIR grants, and has participated in 20 other targeted, commissioned projects co-funded with EU grants.

He co-owns two Lodz University of Technology spin-off companies: Hart-Tech Sp. z o.o., dealing in advanced heat and thermo-chemical treatment technologies, and C CUBE P.S.A., whose core business is NDT testing of composite materials.

Organizational activity

He serves as Head Education at the Institute of Materials Engineering (since 2009) and Head of the Department of Numerical Methods in Materials Engineering (since 2014). He sits on the TUL Council for the second term. He is a member of the Council for Materials Engineering Discipline and the Council for Academic Degrees in the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering. He chairs the Council of the Materials Engineering field of study.
