Prof. Marcin Koniorczyk is an alumnus of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology. Following his graduation in 2000, he worked as a software engineer at Intersoft for several years. In 2005, he joined Lodz University of Technology.

He holds two doctoral degrees. The first, in the field of structural engineering, was awarded to him in 2005 upon successful completion of a doctoral program at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering, TUL. Then, 8 years later, he earned his postdoctoral degree in engineering and technology from that same Faculty. His second doctoral degree was awarded to him in 2017 at the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics where he had completed his degree in Mathematics. At present, he works at the Department of Building Materials Physics and Sustainable Design, where he heads the Division of Building Materials.

Research
Prof. Koniorczyk's research interests revolve around experimental and theoretical studies of the processes of mass and energy transport in deformable porous media. He is an expert in the problems of moisture – and corrosion – proofing reinforced concrete structures, and hydrophobization of masonry. Among his particularly notable contributions is the development of computer programs to analyze durability of concrete composites and ceramic products in corrosive environments. He has also co-designed a number of test benches to measure the rate of deterioration of porous building materials exposed to cyclic freezing – thawing of water, and salt crystallization. In collaboration with scientists from his home Faculty and the Faculty of Chemistry, TUL, he has developed a method of medical waste disposal in concrete.

Publication output and research staff development
Prof. Marcin Koniorczyk's publication output counts more than 110 research papers, of which 37 in JCR indexed journals. His works have been cited more than 700 times, and his h-index value is 12. He supervises doctoral theses, three of which have already been completed, whereas the doctoral proceedings for another two are pending. He is the director of doctoral degree programs at BAIŚ Faculty.

Other accomplishments
Prof. Koniorczyk has been a principal investigator/researcher in many research projects funded by MNiSzW, NCN and NAWA (OPUS, PRELUDIUM, bilateral exchange, POIG, postdoctoral degree grant). He completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He has collaborated with researchers from Czechia, Italy, Germany, France, and China. In 2022-23, he held a visiting professor appointment at the University of Nantes.

Prof. Koniorczyk holds membership of many national and international scientific organizations. For two terms he served as scientific secretary to the Section of Building Physics, Committee of Civil Engineering, Polish Academy of Sciences.

He keeps active in his private life and enjoys cycling, swimming, and mountain hiking.
