The Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design hosted professor Somaye Akbari, a researcher from the Department of Textile Engineering at  Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic). Lodz University of Technology's cooperation with the Iranian university goes back several years. It is founded on collaborative research on functional textiles with antibacterial, insecticidal, anti-mildew, and flame-retardant properties. Textiles of this kind are used in advanced bioactive applications.

Professor Somaye Akbari and professor Dawid Stawski, TUL Institute of Materials Science of Textiles and Polymer Composites, collaborate in research supervision providing research guidance to a doctoral candidate at TUL and several students working on their dissertations at AUT, as well as coordinating exchange and research programs between the two universities.

As a visiting professor at TUL, professor Akbari conducted lectures for the Faculty's students and doctoral candidates in March. These included lectures in applied metrology for students in the Textiles and Fashion Industry degree program taught in English and an expert lecture for Industrial Design final-year students. Additionally, in the course of the TUL ZPU2 project, professor Akbari delivered an open seminar for doctoral candidates on ‘Surface Modification of Textile Materials’, an open lecture for the staff on ‘Applications of Dendrimers’, and co-taught  ‘Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry’ course for first-year students in the Textiles and Fashion Industry degree program.

One of the purposes of the visit was also to share information about research interests and capacity in view of broadening the scope of the collaboration. Professor Akbari met, among others, with the Dean of the Faculty of Materials Technology and Textile Design, professor Katarzyna Grabowska, and the Director of the Institute of Materials Science of Textiles and Polymer Composites, professor Izabella Krucińska. Given bilateral enthusiasm for advancing the cooperation, further collaborative research and teaching endeavors are to be expected.

Amirkabir University of Technology is a university that dates back to 1927 and which annually enrolls more than 13,000 students. There are 24 institutes within six faculties/schools, including the Department of Textile Engineering, where professor Somaye Akbari works in the chemistry research group.
