Professor Jerzy Werner was born in Krosno in 1909. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology in 1935. He began his work at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Lodz University of Technology in 1946. He was awarded the title of associate professor in 1954 and he became full professor in 1962. 

Important functions:

  • at the University: Rector of Lodz University of Technology (1962-1968), Vice-Rector for Education (1955-1956), Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (1954-1955, 1960-1962); director of the Institute of Vehicles (1970-1977);
  • outside the University: member of Societé des Ingenieurs de'l Automobile (since 1938), chairperson of the Programme Board of the journal titled Technika Motoryzacyjna (1962-1973), member of Komitetu Budowy Maszyn PAN (since 1971), Member of the Parliament (1965-1972) – working in the  Commission of Education and Science.
