Professor Sławomir Wiak was born in Janówek (Mazovia province) on 14 August 1948. He became a Master of Science in Engineering (specialisation Electrical Machines) in 1973. He has been working at the the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering of Lodz University of Technology since 1973, first in the Institute of Transformers, Electrical Machines and Apparatus and then in the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems since October 2007. He obtained his doctoral degree at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and post-doctoral degree (habilitation) in 1979 and 1990 respectively. He was awarded the title of professor in 2002 and he became full professor in 2005.
Important functions:
- at the university: Rector of Lodz University of Technology (2016-2020), Vice-Rector for Education (2012-2016), Dean of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering (2008-2012), head of the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems (since 2007).
- outside the university: member of the Foresight Programme - Poland 2020 (2012 - 2015), member of the Monitoring Committee of the Technical Assistance Operational Programme in the Ministry of Economic Development (2014 – 2020), member of the Committee for the Strategy of the Lodz Province, member of the Monitoring Committee of the Regional Operational Programme of the Lodz Province (2014-2020), member of the European Universities Association Expert Group expert in charge of European Innovation Ecosystems (since 2019), advisor of Łukasiewicz Research Network (since 2019), member of the Crisis Group of the Conference of Rectors Of Academic Schools in Poland (since 2020), Vice-Chairman of the the IT Infrastructure Committee of the Conference of Rectors Of Academic Schools in Poland (since 2020), member of the Advisory Team of the Minister of Education and Science for Minister’s Awards (since 2020), member of the Team of the Ministry of Education and Science for Implementation Doctorate Programmes (since 2020).
