Professor Mieczysław Serwiński was born in Zakrzewo (Płock County) on 28 April 1918. He began his studies at the Faculty of Chemistry at Warsaw University of Technology immediately before the outbreak of World War II, and he completed his education in 1943 at Higher Technical School organized on the area of Warsaw University of Technology. After receiving his MSc Eng. in chemistry in 1945, he was employed at Lodz University of Technology where he completed his doctoral studies in 1950. 
He was awarded the title of associate professor in 1961 and he became full professor in 1968.

Important functions:

  • at the University: Rector of Lodz University of Technology (1968-1975), Vice-Rector (1962-1968), Dean of the Department of Food Chemistry (1952-1956); director of the Institute of Chemical Engineering (1970-1987).
  • outside the University: councillor, chairperson of the National Council of the city of Lodz (for 8 years), Member of Parliament of the People's Republic of Poland (for 14 years).
