4. Leading Research Areas of the Department
The goal of the project is to expand the potential of organocatalysis by utilizing photocatalysis as a tool. We expect that this approach will lead to the development of new methods for synthesizing important chiral building blocks and molecules of chemical or biological significance. The synthetic methodologies proposed in the project harness the potential of two rapidly developing fields of science: photochemistry and organocatalysis, opening up access to compounds that are difficult to obtain using conventional methods. These approaches are environmentally friendly because they will be carried out under mild conditions and are characterized by high atomic economy, thereby aligning with the strategy of sustainable development. As part of the project, the Post-doc (f/m) will conduct research related to the development and optimization of synthesis conditions for selected photo-organocatalytic reactions. The postdoc’s (f/m) responsibilities will include identifying new reaction pathways and optimizing reaction conditions. The postdoc (f/m) will also be required to prepare interim reports and scientific publications based on the results of the research conducted. The postdoc (f/m) will be employed under an employment contract for the duration of the project.

9. Profile of the Department’s Activities, Institute of Organic Chemistry
The Institute of Organic Chemistry is part of the Faculty of Chemistry at the Lodz University of Technology. It was established in 1970 as a result of changes introduced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Institute is a research unit conducting research in the field of organic chemistry. The main areas of research include organic synthesis methodology, asymmetric catalysis, and the synthesis and application of organic catalysts with a strictly defined spatial structure. Another important aspect of our research is understanding the mechanisms of organocatalytic reactions based on kinetic and synthetic techniques, with particular emphasis on the use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Recently, we have also been conducting research in a new laboratory using a mass spectrometer coupled with a multidimensional liquid chromatograph. Many of the Institute’s research projects are focused on practical applications in industry and medicine. The Institute places great emphasis on research conducted within both domestic and international projects.
