SEWC is a global forum held every two years, bringing together leading experts who combine science with design practice in the broadly understood field of building structures. It serves as an excellent platform for civil engineering professionals to interact and expand their knowledge of current developments and future trends in structural engineering.

This year, the Congress took place from April 16 to 18 at the renowned and deliberately chosen Tongji University (ranked among the world’s top three universities in civil engineering), in the heart of Shanghai-a city famous for its impressive structures that inspire engineers worldwide.

As Prof. Szafran emphasized:
The most important thing for me was representing my country, my university-Lodz University of Technology-and the city of Lodz, as well as having the opportunity to give a lecture on Polish achievements in the field of supporting structures in telecommunications.

Prof. Szafran’s participation in the Structural Engineers World Congress is not only a tremendous personal success but also a great distinction for our university and the entire engineering community in Poland. We are proud to have such an outstanding representative on the world stage6.

Prof. Jacek Szafran is a scientist specializing in the analysis of slender, tall tower structures. He is a member of the Section of Structural Mechanics and Materials of the Committee of Civil and Water Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2024–2027 term. He was appointed by the Minister of Development and Technology to the Scientific Council of the Building Research Institute in Warsaw. Prof. Jacek Szafran has impressive achievements, including research on telecommunications towers at full scale, publications on the probabilistic theory of structural reliability, and studies on the impact of polyurethane coatings on the strength of concrete structures.
