The Chinese Jimei University has now joined the ever expanding group of international partners of Lodz University of Technology.

The opening of the new calendar sparked new activity from  Lodz University of Technology in its relations with China. On January 10, 2024, leadership of the two universities convened online to sign a cooperation agreement. Both institutions took the opportunity to present their capacities and discuss prospects for further development of the cooperation.

TUL leadership was represented by Rector prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, Vice-Rector for Science prof. Łukasz Albrecht, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering prof. Tomasz Kubiak, and Head of the Centre for International Cooperation (CWM) dr inż. Dorota Piotrowska, TUL professor. Also in attendance was Mr. Wojciech Szydłowski, Chairman of Polsko-Chińska Fundacja Współpracy Akademickiej (Polish-Chinese Foundation for Academic Cooperation).

The Chinese Party was equally well-represented and included Xie Chaotian, President of Jimei University, individuals from the Exchange and International Cooperation Division as well as from the College of Marine Equipment and Mechanical Engineering.

The President of Jimei University and the Rector of TUL both expressed strong mutual commitment to collaboration in education and research, as well as in cooperative proposals for funding. Discussed during the meeting were preliminary steps related to Chinese students pursuit of master degree programs in Mechanical Engineering offered by Lodz University of Technology.

Rector prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik said, ‘These degree programs mark the start of our cooperation in education. Several dozen Chinese students will follow our curriculum. In the Chinese education system, they represent the elite selected from thousands of applicants. However, our teaching and learning standards are high, and we hope these young people prove to be up to the challenge.’

Jimei University is located in Xiamen. It was established over a century ago. Today, 1 500 academic staff teach 30,000 students who work toward their degrees in 64 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate fields of study. Doctoral level training is also provided. The University cooperates with several hundred higher education institutions around the world.
