Chronic and intense stress causes mental and physical health problems such as mental disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, substance abuse), cardiovascular, musculoskeletal disorders, negatively affects the immune system, fertility, and produces many other symptoms. It contributes to many disabilities and may cause a severe economic burden. The aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic is yet to be fully understood. Switching to an online model has been a challenge for both educators and students. Researchers from Poland, Spain, and Estonia are working on chill spots to help solve these civilization problems.

The coordinator of the VRXanny project is the Lodz University of Technology. The funding was obtained from the European program Erasmus+, under the Cooperation Partnership action.

The project involves psychologists from the University of Łódź, who will develop scenarios for relaxation exercises, and IT specialists from TUL, UVigo, and UT, who will transfer them to virtual reality.

What benefits are expected?

The VR application will be implemented in the form of chill spots which students can use as a relaxation training program during an emergency. Chill spots will be designed and placed in such a way as to eliminate outside noise and isolate the user from the real environment. The designed VR application will create an immersive multisensory environment that implements two scenarios: (1) dedicated to stress and anxiety reduction, (2) dedicated to anger relief and relaxation. One relaxing session will last about 10 minutes, so it will be possible to take it during a single break.

Kick-off meeting

The first meeting of the project partners took place on 1-2 December 2021 at the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems (TUL). It aimed to get to know people working on the project, establish the principles of cooperation, and, most importantly, develop the concept of chill spot and the scope of research on the expectations and preferences of the group for which it is dedicated.
