A partner of Lodz University of Technology, DIGICA, a company specialising in developing software based on advanced artificial intelligence for the medical and defence industries, has opened a new office in Lodz.

According to Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik:

The cooperation between our university and this company is a natural consequence of the development of AI technology and the results of research conducted at Lodz University of Technology for many years. Together we have started efforts to establish a Host Hub for AI in Lodz, i.e., a base for international experts in artificial intelligence who will develop strategic projects in our city. The works on creating such a space are advanced and I hope that soon we will become a leader in the field of AI, both as a university and as Lodz.

During the opening ceremony of DIGICA's headquarters, its co-founder Rafał Janczyk said:

Four years ago, my partners and I decided it was time to get into artificial intelligence (AI) and its commercial implementation. Although at that time I was still in the United States, we decided that we would do it in Lodz. Because here we have already successfully launched several other companies and therefore it is worth returning to Lodz. There is a huge potential of Lodz University of Technology and huge support from the city. Four years after launching, we employ 60 AI experts whose level of expertise sometimes surpasses even the level of expertise I encountered in Silicon Valley. We have been successful - we started with one specialist, and now we implement projects in the field of medicine and defence industry (e.g., protection of oil platforms from drone attacks). As for our new headquarters, we chose this office building for a reason. It is the most ecological and green building we could find in Lodz. And this is also the nature of DIGICA - we are a group of people who care about our planet. We care not only about the present, but also about the future.

Adam Pustelnik - the first vice-president of the city - also spoke about the need to develop the AI sector in Lodz:

Reports diagnosing the future of the world and the labour market indicate that the greatest talent shortage will concern experts specialising in artificial intelligence and data science. The fact that a company such as DIGICA has opened an office in Lodz and is creating jobs for experts who are working on solutions that are years ahead of what we know today makes me very proud and happy. The strength of any city is the strength of its labour market, how many top specialists such companies can attract to the city. I would like to thank DIGICA for implementing such advanced projects in Lodz, because the future of our city depends on such companies and their development.
