We have received very sad news. After a long illness, Prof. Jan Krysiński has passed away. He was an exceptionally meritorious figure for our university, the city, and the academic community in Poland and abroad. He was Rector from 1990–1996 and 2002–2008, previously Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Director of the Institute of Turbomachinery. In 1957, he received a master's degree in engineering, specializing in power machines and equipment.
He cared for the development of the university, reformed it, and set new directions for its activities. He created the first unit in Poland to provide education in foreign languages known worldwide as the International Faculty of Engineering. At that time, the founding concept of IFE was completely innovative. Few people in Poland were then interested in the idea of multiculturalism and education conducted in foreign languages. Internationalization became one of the priorities of Lodz University of Technology. He successfully developed socially responsible activities - he founded Children's University
of Lodz, the Academic Choir and Orchestra, and sponsored cultural events at the university.
Professor Jan Krysiński repeatedly undertook scientific stays in France, Algeria, Brussels, Montreal, and Great Britain. He is a doctor honoris causa of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
He was awarded high honors, including the French Legion of Honor and the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta, as well as the papal order "Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice" awarded by John Paul II. He was also an honorary citizen of Lodz.
The family was very important to the Professor, with whom we share our sorrow and pain.
We will remember Professor Krysiński as an extremely warm, dedicated member of Lodz University of Technology, a broadly minded erudite.
We would like to recall the last recording featuring the Professor, which took place on the occasion of the start of the 80th jubilee celebrations of Lodz University of Technology.
