The latest results of the international SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026 have been published. In this year's edition, Lodz University of Technology recorded a clear advancement, taking 1075th place worldwide, which is an improvement of 133 positions compared to the previous year.

In the Region Ranking – Eastern Europe, the university placed 39th (up from 47th) among 511 universities from Eastern Europe. In the national ranking, TUL took 19th place out of 74 ranked Polish universities.

In the thematic rankings, TUL was included in 21 categories. In as many as three of them, the university achieved the highest, 1st place in Poland: in Food Science, it took 155th place worldwide (up 29 positions) out of 2349 ranked universities, as well as 2nd place in Region Ranking – Eastern Europe (out of 165); in Agricultural and Biological Sciences, it took 291st place worldwide (up 68 positions) out of 3571 ranked universities, as well as 5th place in Region Ranking – Eastern Europe (out of 283); in Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics, TUL took 300th place worldwide (impressive advancement of 563 positions) out of 2742 universities, as well as 3rd place in Region Ranking – Eastern Europe (out of 185).

In Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, the university placed 3rd in the country, 562nd worldwide (up 129 positions) out of 3398 universities, and 9th in Region Ranking – Eastern Europe (out of 255).

In the latest edition of the SIR ranking, 10,827 institutions from various sectors were considered, including 5,491 universities. In the world ranking – just like last year – the top two places were taken by Harvard University (USA) and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), with Zhejiang University (China) in third place. In Poland, the podium belongs to: Jagiellonian University, University of Warsaw, and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

The SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) cover five different sectors, including universities and research institutions. The evaluation is based on 20 indicators defined in three areas: research output (50% weight), innovation level (30%), and societal impact, measured by web visibility (20%).
