A press briefing was held in front of Reinhold Richter’s villa, where Prof. Jóźwik outlined the planned renovation and conservation works that will be carried out thanks to EU funding provided by the Łódź Voivodeship Government.
Expressing gratitude to Marshal Skrzydelewska, Prof. Krzystof Jóźwik remarked:
The plans are ambitious, as the funding is significant. This is our most valuable building, and there is a chance that by the end of 2027 we will be able to hand over the renovated Rectorate.
Joanna Skrzydlewska emphasized:
I would like to congratulate the Rector on the excellent preparation of the applications. I am keeping my fingers crossed that these projects will be implemented as soon as possible.
The Marshal emphasised that Łódź University of Technology is the largest beneficiary of this programme. The total value of co-financing from the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and the state budget amounts to PLN 51,563,893.59. She also stressed that the
implementation of this investment will benefit not only the university, but also the residents of Łódź and the wider region.
Thanks to this support, the following projects will be implemented:
Revitalization of the palace complex at Piotrkowska 266 in Łódź (Scheibler Palace revitalization project), 28 February 2025 – 31 December 2027. The project aims to give the building a new function by renovating the interior and creating a Cultural and Didactic Centre, which will serve as a venue for cultural and integration events for student organisations operating at the University, as well as for the Senior Club of Łódź University of Technology. As part of the investment, Łódź University of Technology plans to carry out construction and installation works, including renovation of the roof and façade, thermal modernisation, and restoration of historic interiors. The project will also increase green areas around the building and improve accessibility for people with disabilities. The total value of the project: PLN 36,191,412.50, co-financing applied for: PLN 32,572,271.25.
- Comprehensive reconstruction of the Reinhold Richter villa, 28 February 2025 – 31 December 2027 The project aims to restore the splendour of the historic interiors and repair fire damage through revitalisation and conservation works. As part of the investment, Łódź University of Technology plans to carry out conservation works to renovate the historic interiors. Works will include: renovation of interior and exterior door joinery; restoration of the polychrome on the ceiling of the main entrance; refurbishment of wooden wall and radiator structures; restoration of marble and parquet floors according to historical patterns; and renovation of the wooden stairs of the representative staircase. In the rooms, wall and ceiling colours will be recreated based on stratigraphic research, and wallpaper will be installed according to historical patterns. Ceiling stucco and wall borders will be reconstructed and installed. In the bathrooms, glazes will be applied using replicas of historical décor, and the floors will replicate the colours and shapes of historical tiles. The building will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, including the installation of an internal elevator. The external area will also be renovated, with changes to the layout of the alleys. Internal electrical and sanitary installations will be replaced. The total value of the project: PLN 17,821,878.10, co-financing applied for: PLN 16,039,690.29.
- Renovation of the Józef Richter villa, 28 February 2025 – 31 December 2028. This project will continue the renovation of the façade and adapt the building for people with disabilities through the installation of an elevator. In connection with Łódź University of Technology’s reconstruction of the original Rectorate, the building will change its function after revitalisation and conservation works and a European Contact Centre of Łódź University of Technology will be established within its wallas. The main task of the Centre will be to coordinate cooperation with institutions and entrepreneurs from the European Union in the field of scientific and development activities, including participation in the prestigious network of thirteen universities associated with the ECIU. The Centre will serve as a hub for meetings and creative work, not only within the ECIU for the entire academic community—students, research and teaching staff, and administrative staff—but also for collaboration with other scientific institutions across Europe, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience. This, in turn, will contribute directly and indirectly to the development of Łódź University of Technology and the wider Łódź region. The total value of the project: PLN 3,279,924.50, co-financing applied for: PLN 2,951,932.05.
