Professor Beata Kolesińska from the Faculty of Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology has been awarded the Ambassador of Innovation prize by the Europejski Ośrodek Rozwoju Gospodarki. The researcher was awarded for conducting research work and pioneering projects with application potential.

Prof. Beata Kolesińska's research interests lie in the design and synthesis of peptides, i.e. proteins that take part in all physiological processes of living organisms.

Referring to her research work, Prof. Kolesińska points out:

The main objective of the research work conducted by the Team of Chemistry and Peptide and Protein Engineering, which I lead, is not only to prove the correctness of the adopted assumptions, but also to achieve practical effects, e.g. in the form of innovative materials, which are used mainly in the widely understood medical industry. The importance of research is emphasised by the fact that its positive results very often have a direct impact on improving the quality of human life and health.

Cooperation with the business community is also important to the researcher:

On the one hand, it means providing funds for research and on the other hand, transferring practical solutions concerning innovative technologies. Such activities influence the continuous development of science and technology in Poland and, at the same time, universal access to its achievements for Polish entrepreneurs.

Prof. Beata Kolesińska has already achieved significant successes. Among others, for her innovative hybrid materials for tissue regeneration and haemostatic, resorbable dual-use dressings, she was awarded the title Scientist of the Future in 2019 as part of the Polish Intelligent Development Award. The laboratory she manages is part of the Centre for the Study of New Biologically Active Compounds Potentially Useful in Medical Diagnostics, being created at the Faculty of Chemistry as part of a project co-financed by the Regional Operational Programme for the Lodz Voivodeship under the so-called Territorial Contract.
