Scientific achievements
Emila Steinmetz, MSc Eng., doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Lodz University of Technology, Institute of Materials Engineering, develops research on additive technologies, lightweight and functional materials, multi-material printing and post-processing of additively manufactured parts.Her output includes publications on 3D-printing parameters, PLA–TPU
adhesion, strengthening of biopolymers, surface modification, post-processing, dimensional accuracy of DMLS gears made of 1.2709 steel, and applications of 3D printing in aviation, automotive and space sectors.
Research profile and research directions
Her research interests include design and manufacturing of structures with controlled geometry and properties, 3D printing technologies, polymer and metallic materials, multi-material structures, surface engineering, and evaluation of mechanical and functional properties.She is currently pursuing her PhD within the Pearls of Science programme as project leader of “Shaping physicochemical and mechanical properties of 3D prints with a gradient structure”. Future work will develop gradient and TPMS structures, metal additive manufacturing and multi-material printing for lightweight and reliable components.
Cooperation with industry and projects
She has cooperated with companies on implementation projects involving 3D printing, digital modelling and Industry 4.0. In the RAPID 2 project she participated in implementing 3D printing in the production of sheet-metal, mechanical and polymer components.As a board member of Research Center Sporto sp. z o.o., she develops R&D projects combining additive technologies, numerical methods and practical applications. Her achievements also include patent application P.440978 concerning a method for producing carbon quantum dots.
Distinctions and recognition by the scientific community
She is leader of a Pearls of Science project, winner of the Talenty Jutra 2023 competition, leader of an FU2N project and recipient of IDUB programme awards. She received the award for the best graduate of Lodz University of Technology, the Curran-Werner Award and scholarships from the university’s own scholarship fund.
