Research achievements
Professor Agnieszka Ruppert, PhD, DSc, Eng, from the Faculty of Chemistry,
Lodz University of Technology, is a distinguished researcher in the chemical
sciences. Her achievements focus on developing innovative catalytic processes that enable the conversion of waste including biomass into valuable chemical products and fuels. Publications, including those on
hydrogen production via catalytic dehydrogenation of formic acid, and the selective catalytic conversion of renewable-derived compounds into value-added chemicals, demonstrate the high level of innovation in her research, which directly contributes to the pursuit of climate neutrality.
Research profile and directions
The professor’s work focuses on the design of heterogeneous catalysts, the selective conversion of lignocellulosic biomass and platform compounds, and the development of catalytic processes for sustainable chemistry and biorefinery. It is also crucial for building the foundations of the hydrogen economy and renewable fuels of the future. Her projects not only expand theoretical knowledge in catalysis but also offer technical solutions for the renewable fuels sector and the circular economy. Professor Ruppert combines advanced chemistry with economic policy, supporting the transformation of TUL into a leader in pro-ecological technologies.
Collaboration with industry, implementation and expertise
By establishing and equipping the Biomass Conversion Laboratory, Professor A. Ruppert has created a base enabling world-class research. She has extensive experience collaborating with industry (including Shell, BASF, and DSM) and is the co-author of a patent application that received the ACTS Patent Award. She holds a number of responsible positions in scientific and organizational bodies. Since 2021, she has been the Director of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School at TUL, responsible for educational
organization, internationalization, and grant acquisition for the school. She also serves as an expert and reviewer for projects in the Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, CBE JU/BBI JU programs, and for national agencies such as the ANR in France, FONDECYT in Chile, and the National Science Center in Poland. She serves on the National Smart Specializations Working Group for Low-Emission Energy Systems at the Ministry of Development and is a member of the Polish Catalysis Club and the Polish Chemical Society. Her role as an editor of journals (e.g., Catalysis Today, ChemistrySelect) and membership on editorial boards confirm her esteemed position in the international scientific community. Her outstanding work has been recognized, among others, with the title of „Scientist of the Future” (2020) and nominations for Polish-French awards and the prestigious AcademiaNet
database.
