AIdesignTEX: Innovative IT tools for a circular textile economy: driving sustainability and resource efficiency.
The AIdesignTEX project (Grant No. 101159060), carried out under the Horizon Europe program (HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ACCESS-02), addresses the challenges related to the negative impact of the textile industry on the environment. The goal of the project is to use modern digital technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning methods, to support more sustainable design and production of textile products and textile recycling.
The project is led by Lodz University of Technology, with partners including renowned European universities: the University of Stavanger (Norway), Ghent University (Belgium), and the Catholic University of Ávila (Spain).
This collaboration allows for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices related to the circular economy, eco-design, and the implementation of innovative digital solutions in the textile industry.
The main goal of the project is to strengthen the research potential of the Lodz University of Technology, especially the Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design, in the field of sustainable textile production and recycling. The project aims to develop the skills of researchers and specialists and build lasting international relationships. A key part of the activities is using AI to optimize production processes in line with the principles of the circular economy.
As part of the project, research visits, training sessions, workshops, lectures, and summer schools are carried out. These activities aim to improve participants' skills in modern technologies, eco-design, research management, and sustainable development. The knowledge gained will be shared both within the scientific community and among entrepreneurs and institutions related to the textile sector.
The project results are expected to help reduce the negative impact of the textile industry on the environment through more efficient use of resources, reducing waste, and extending product life cycles. The benefits will also include the development of responsible production and consumption models and a decrease in pollution levels. The project's impacts will be particularly important for scientists, designers, textile manufacturers, public administration, and institutions supporting the green transition.
