The two award winners are members of the Robots for Humans (R4H) team, which is part of the SKaNeR student research group. They joined the team to work on the project that aims to develop customised devices for post-stroke therapy based on advances in soft robotics and artificial intelligence. Dr inż. Igor Zubrycki is their research advisor. The 3D scanner tripod the students developed and won the competition with is intended to facilitate the process of scanning patients' hands.
‘When you perform a scan manually, you have to hold an uncomfortable hand position for an extended time, which leads to fatigue and increases the risk of errors due to unintentional hand movements', explained Antoni Bryłka. ‘So, we wanted to design a scanning process that would not only yield accurate results, but would also be comfortable and easy to use for the person scanned. We believe that by introducing new methods and technologies, we have significantly improved the hand scanning experience for both the patient and the medical staff’.
The device designed by the students is now used in a study conducted on a group of patients in one of the hospitals in Łódź.
The KOKOS competition is an exciting and valuable event. Its objective is to support marketing of innovation created by young, talented, and driven students. The presentation of the awards was held at Warsaw University of Technology.
