The primary role of the Group is to evaluate applications for funding related to investments in scientific activities and the maintenance of unique research equipment and IT infrastructure. The process ensures that research projects are executed at the highest standard, contributing to the advancement of science in Poland.
During the appointment ceremony, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Marek Gzik, emphasized the significant responsibility the Group will bear. He highlighted that the team comprises representatives from across scientific disciplines, ensuring that project evaluations will be conducted by individuals with relevant knowledge and experience in their respective fields. This multidisciplinary approach guarantees a rigorous evaluation process and support for the most promising initiatives. Well-developed research infrastructure is crucial to the advancement of science and technology for several reasons: it facilitates cutting-edge research, fosters international collaboration, and it is essential for training future researchers and engineers.
Prof. Tomasz Kubiak brings substantial leadership experience to the Group, having served as head of the Department of Strength of Materials since 2015, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (2016-2020), chairman of the Council for the Scientific Discipline of Mechanical Engineering (2019-2024), and chairman of the Kolegium Dziekanów Wydziałów Mechanicznych Polskich Uczelni Technicznych [College of Deans of Faculties of Mechanical Engineering of Polish Technical Universities] (2020-2024). He is an alumnus of Lodz University of Technology, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a postgraduate certificate in human resources management from the University of Lodz and he participated in the Leadership Development Programme organized by the European Consortium of Innovative Universities.
In the previous term, dr inż. Krzysztof Smółka, Deputy Director of the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems at the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering (EEIA) at Lodz University of Technology, was a member of the Advisory Group for Research Infrastructure.
