During the Łódź City Council meeting (17.05), decorations For Meritable Service to the City of Łódź were awarded. Among the decorated were prof. Małgorzata Iwona Szynkowska-Jóźwik and dr hab. Katarzyna Zimna, university prof.

From the very start of her career, prof. Małgorzata Iwona Szynkowska-Jóźwik has been dedicated to Lodz University of Technology and the city of Łódź. With her work, she has contributed to the development of the city, has been involved in scientific research, community service, and promotion of Łódź at home and abroad.

Since 2016, she has served as dean of the Faculty of Chemistry. She championed investment in the construction of a new building for the Faculty, Alchemium - the magic of tomorrow's chemistry.

She is head of the TUL Discipline Council for Chemical Sciences. In 2022, for the first time, the discipline was awarded the highest category, A+, in the national evaluation of research. She is a member of: the Committee of Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Lodz Scientific Society, Polish Forensic Society, Polish PTChem Catalysis Club, Association of Chemical Engineers. Currently, she serves as president of the European Association of Chemistry and the Environment.

She leads the project InterChemMed - Interdisciplinary doctoral program of Łódź public universities, which has been run since 2019 by four faculties of Łódź public universities TUL, UŁ, and UMed. Her team and she were awarded the honorary distinction ŁÓDZKIE EUREKA 2019, granted to individuals working for the advancement of Łódź as a research and academic center.

Prof. Szynkowska-Jóźwik is a member of the Lions Club Łódź Ladies and a member of the Heart for Hearts Foundation (Fundacja Serce dla Serc).

Dr hab. Katarzyna Zimna, university prof., is a locally and internationally recognized artist and art theorist, an active member of the artistic community in Łódź. She promotes Łódź as a city  where graphic arts thrive both in her individual activities and in her national and international collaborations.

At her solo exhibition Colouring Book, she presented a series of lino prints inspired by Bałuty streetscapes. The exhibition, organized by the China Academy of Art in Hanghzou, was part of the international printmaking conference Impact (2015). In 2022, at the invitation of the Municipal Art Gallery in Łódź, she and 5 other artists represented the Łódź graphic arts community at the exhibition Spaces of Graphics at the Vilnius Graphic Arts Center.

In 2020, she was awarded the Medal of Honor of the International Triennial of Small Graphic Forms Łódź-Poland. She collaborates with the Museum of Art Books in Łódź, and is a member of the Council of the Correspondences des Artes Foundation.

Affiliated with Lodz University of Technology since 2011, she works at the Institute of Architecture of Textiles, Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design. She runs the Faculty's gallery Jutro, where in 2023 she organized two exhibitions contributing to the celebration of the 600th anniversary of Łódź.

She was born and raised in Łódź; even as a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, she was already involved in collaborative work with Kalejdoskop and the Łódź branch of Gazeta Wyborcza, writing pieces about Łódź arts scene. She has embraced the ambiguous character of Łódź as part of her artistic identity, and used it as inspiration in many of her artworks.
