Rector Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik began his speech with a short description of the first year of his term in office.
- At every stage of my journey, from the development of the programme to the implementation of the adopted objectives, I have been accompanied by the slogan "Together for a better future". The beginning of my term in office coincided with the coronavirus pandemic, in which the word "together" took on a special meaning. (...)

Efficient Management

Our achievements in the efficient implementation of the remote form of education and university management have been noticed and appreciated. We became a partner of the "Cyfrowa Gmina" project (...). The past year has made us aware of the direction in which we should improve our information flow activities at our university. In January next year, we will launch the Electronic Document Management System. Paper correspondence will be replaced by electronic communication.

University for Environment and Business

As a modern university, we focus on increasing the applicability of research results in Poland and abroad. We have tightened our cooperation with the Łukasiewicz Research Network. (...) The cooperation concerns such areas as: intelligent mobility, health, sustainable economy and energy, digital transformation, modern materials and technologies.
Speaking about the University of Technology's activity in cooperation with the economic environment, Rector referred to the contract with DS Smith Polska and the District Labour Inspectorate in Lodz. (...) Our effective cooperation with industrial and business partners has also been appreciated in a wider group. I was pleased to hear that Lodz University of Technology has been awarded the Polish Innovation Award.

Scientific Excellence

This is one of the key areas of development of Lodz University of Technology. - Our university ranks second in terms of the number of patents granted by domestic and foreign entities. (...)
We constantly take actions to improve the quality of scientific work. As part of the IDUB programme, we have already allocated nearly PLN 6.5 million to research initiatives for the best researchers and students. In the near future, we want to extend such support especially to young researchers. Rector thus referred to two programmes that will soon be launched: "YES - Young Excellent Scientist Programme" and "FU2N – Fundusz Udoskonalania Umiejętności Młodych Naukowców".

Collaboration

We focus on openness and innovation in scientific research and implement a strategy of joining forces with leading research institutions in Europe. As part of the Horizon Europe Programme, Lodz University of Technology is preparing a teaming project regarding the further development of ICRI-BioM as a Centre of Excellence. The consortium will include: Lodz University of Technology, Medical University, Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Max-Planck Institute.
Medical University of Lodz has become a partner of our activities. We have established a team to create a centre of excellence that supports collaboration as well as facilitates the promotion of interdisciplinary research.

We Improve the quality of education

We maintain the eighth place among all public universities in Poland. (…) We are developing the curriculum content of new fields of study that will appear in the offer of second-cycle studies in the summer semester. At the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, we will start the course of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering - Production Engineering. For many years, educational programmes conducted in foreign languages have distinguished the offer of Lodz University of Technology. Students of all faculties, but especially IFE students, have the opportunity to go for a semester to one of 400 universities in 70 countries. Our priority is to create good conditions for learning and development for foreign students, who already account for approx. 30% of all IFE students. (...)
As part of the "Politechnika dla utalentowanych" initiative, the E2TOP programme (Excellence in Engineering: Talents in Research with Opportunities Programme). Lodz University of Technology also received a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science for classes for gifted students. Programme participants will receive long-term mentoring, and their tutors will be experienced teachers participating in the "Masters of didactics" programme.
Rector also spoke about the latest success in the field of education. The National Agency of the Erasmus + Programme and the European Solidarity Corps awarded Lodz University of Technology with the EDUinspiracje award in the Digital Skills category for the international project Virtual Mechatronic Laboratory, coordinated by our university.

Investments

(...) As announced, we started to adapt the building to the needs of a nursery and kindergarten. Completion of the works is planned for August 2022. The cost of the investment is almost PLN 7 million.  Finishing works are underway on a passive office building that will be powered exclusively by solar energy. (…) The next investment is the replacement of outdoor lighting on campus A. It is almost entirely financed by subsidies obtained from the Marshal's Office in the amount of almost PLN 1.8 million. We are planning a comprehensive, worth over PLN 3 million, renovation of the warehouse building in the sailing base in Roganty, as well as the A7 building - the value of the works is another PLN 7 million. The reconstruction of the 2nd Hall of Residence will be completed next year. Our university is implementing the project "Accessible Lodz University of Technology", under which works to remove architectural barriers are underway throughout the campus. (...)

Sport at TUL

The beginning of the academic year is a time of intensive preparations for the EUG 2022 - the European Universities Games that we will host in July. During the EUSA General Assembly in Budapest, we announced our readiness to host approximately 5,000 students - athletes and 800 volunteers. (...)

Wishes

Warm words flowed towards the matriculated students and doctoral candidates.
Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik wished the university's academic community that it would be able to function without restrictions. Let us enjoy the possibility of a personal meeting, let us boldly plan to resume mobility, let us actively engage in scientific events, remembering about a responsible attitude and following current recommendations. Let's take care of ourselves and all of us around.
