Lodz University of Technology is putting the finishing touches to the European Universities Games - EUG 2022. Representatives of universities from 34 countries will compete in 20 academic sport disciplines for a fortnight, from 14 to 31 July.

A total of 383 European universities will be represented by students at EUG 2022. Athletes from Portugal, Cyprus, Austria, Great Britain, France, Hungary, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Ukraine, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Georgia, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Belgium, Slovakia, Serbia, Armenia, Greece, Israel, Estonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Montenegro and, of course, Poland, will come to Lodz. In total, nearly 4,200 foreign team members and more than 600 from Poland will participate in all events.

Lodz University of Technology has entered 12 disciplines. In addition to karate, water polo and swimming, athletes in sport climbing, basketball, volleyball, handball and judo will also compete for medals at the Games. Swimmers and water polo players will compete for medals in the Sports Bay of the Lodz University of Technology, while futsal and badminton competitions will be held in the so-called dry zone, informs Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik, Rector of Lodz University of Technology, the main organizer of the event.

Our athletes will certainly compete for the podium in karate.

We are counting, among others, on Kinga Harast, bronze medallist at the European Championships. Water polo players from TUL and swimmers Marcel Wągrowski and Jan Kałusowski are also among the top contenders, say the event organisers from the Sports Department of TUL.

The opening ceremony of the EUG Lodz 2022 will take place on 17 July at 21:00 at the Atlas Arena. There are still some last invitations left to be won on the event's Facebook page.

The Sambodrome - a colourful, musical and dance parade down Piotrkowska Street to the rhythm of samba - is scheduled for 23 July at 9 p.m. It will be formed by several thousand students from all over Europe together with the residents of Lodz. The next day, on Sunday (24.07), also in Piotrkowska Street, as an accompanying event to the European Universities Games 2022, the 6th edition of the Erasmus Run will be held.
