Researchers from the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems at Lodz University of Technology, in cooperation with the Institute of Psychology at the University of Lodz, have developed an innovative tool for stress reduction. Thanks to the cooperation with the City Hall, it may help refugees from Ukraine to overcome post-war trauma. The pilot programme was launched on 7 April at the City Activity Office at 10 Tuwima Street.

We invite 40 people to participate in the programme - says Dr Eng. Dorota Kamińska, who implements the programme on behalf of Lodz University of Technology. - Each session lasts about 20 minutes, during which we are taken to a luxurious flat in the mountains, where the calm voice of a guide gives us basic information about the visual elements of the environment and how to breathe during the session. Of course, a version in Ukrainian has been prepared. The session combines several classical relaxation techniques, such as visualisation and breathing techniques. It works a bit like the REM phase of sleep.

Virtual reality has been used for several years as a therapeutic method for stress reduction, treatment of depression, phobias and anxiety disorders. Its beneficial effects have been scientifically confirmed many times, also by a team of scientists from the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems at the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, TUL.

The sessions are carried out within the framework of funding granted by the National Science Centre from the Miniauta 4 project.
