Prof. Tomasz Kapitaniak from Lodz University of Technology has become a member of Academia Europaea, an elite association of scientists that advises the European Commission.

Academia Europaea was established on the initiative of the British Royal Society, the oldest scientific society in the world, and the Swedish Academy of Sciences. It is an elite society whose membership is by invitation only and is reviewed by carefully selected scientists. Academia Europaea currently has over 4500 members from all over the world, including many Nobel Prize winners.

Prof Tomasz Kapitaniak is a member of the physics & engineering sciences section, which currently has 437 affiliated scientists.

The aim of Academia Europaea is to develop and promote scientific excellence, to promote interdisciplinary and international research in all fields of science, especially in relation to European issues, to advise governments and international organisations on scientific matters.

Prof. Tomasz Kapitaniak heads the Department of Dynamics at Lodz University of Technology. He received his postdoctoral degree (habilitation) at the age of 29 and his professorship at the age of 36. He is an internationally known scientist, often invited to give plenary lectures. He has published 311 scientific articles in reputable journals, cited more than 6000 times. He enjoys international authority in the field of so-called deterministic chaos and control of irregular motions. In 2013 he was elected a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He holds honorary doctorates at Saratov State University (Russia) and Lublin University of Technology (Poland). He is an honorary professor at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and privately an eminent expert on the country's history. He also relaxes by painting pictures and playing chess.
