Scientific achievements
Dr hab. inż. Grzegorz Paweł Liśkiewicz, professor at Lodz University of Technology, works at the Institute of Turbomachinery. His research concerns centrifugal-compressor stability: surge, rotating stall and inlet recirculation. These phenomena limit compressors used in turbochargers, fuel-cell air systems and aircraft engines. His achievements include early detection of instabilities and active anti-surge systems extending the safe operating range. He combines CFD, experiments and nonlinear signal analysis.
Research profile and research directions
Professor Liśkiewicz develops tools for diagnosing and controlling unsteady flows in centrifugal compressors. A key recent result is analytical determination of the surge inception point with the Greitzer model, showing that the stability limit depends on the operating point and compressor characteristic. Recent work covers inlet recirculation, EMD and SSA-based instability detection, entropy-based diagnostics and deep-surge modelling. Future research will focus on data-driven detection of surge and rotating stall, active control and digital condition monitoring for low-emission propulsion.
Cooperation with industry and projects
He has led or participated in projects funded by NCN, NCBR, MNiSW, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and the Fulbright Senior Award programme. These include SAFECOMP, an anti-surge system for automotive turbochargers, FRONTSH1P, FLEXindustries and Fulbright research on the NASA HECC compressor with Texas A&M University and NASA Glenn Research Center. He is also the author of technologies covered by three national patent applications on monitoring unstable flow structures and developed a TRL 6–7 prototype anti-surge system for automotive turbochargers.
Distinctions and recognitions by the scientific community
Professor Liśkiewicz received the Polish Academy of Sciences award for young researchers in technical sciences, a Fulbright Senior Award and the Top 500 Innovators fellowship at the University of Cambridge. He supports doctoral education as supervisor, mentor in TopMinds and co-founder of IGTI-4-CEE, now evolving into the Stodola Turbomachinery Academy. He is co-author of “The PhD Code” and serves in editorial and reviewer roles for Energies, Open Engineering and Journal of Turbomachinery.
