Scientific achievements
Dr. Bartłomiej Rogalewicz of the Faculty of Chemistry at the Lodz University of Technology is an outstanding young specialist in the fields of medicinal chemistry and coordination chemistry. His research interests focus on the design and characterization of transition-metal complexes with potential anticancer and antibacterial applications. In his scientific work, he combines the synthesis of coordination compounds with physicochemical analyses and biological studies conducted using in vitro and in silico methods. He devotes particular attention to the relationships between the chemical structure and biological activity of new metallopharmaceuticals. He is the author of 20 research papers published in renowned JCR-listed journals and scientific monographs.
Research profile and research directions
His research focused on the design and characterization of new d-electron metal complexes (primarily copper(II), palladium(II), and nickel(II)) with potential anticancer applications in medicinal chemistry. His most significant achievement was the development and characterization of the mechanism of action of new coordination compounds exhibiting high activity against selected cancer cell lines while demonstrating limited toxicity toward healthy cells. The research included synthesis, physicochemical analysis, in vitro studies, and analyses of the mechanism of action related to oxidative stress and apoptosis induction. The results contributed to the advancement of research on metallopharmaceuticals as an alternative to conventional platinum-based drugs. She is currently continuing her research on the design of new transition metal complexes and the analysis of their physicochemical and biological properties. Her work includes the synthesis of new compounds, structure-activity relationship studies, and evaluation of therapeutic potential using modern analytical and computational methods.
Honours and recognition from the scientific community
He is a recipient of a scholarship from the Minister and a research fellowship from the Czesław M. Rodkiewicz Foundation. He received an award from the Medical University of Lodz and the Lodz University of Technology for the best joint scientific publication. He completed a research internship at the Medical University of Lublin.
