PhD in mechanical engineering
priority research area: HealthTech
Scientific achievements
Dr. Zbigniew Tyfa of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Lodz University of Technology is an outstanding young specialist in the field of biomedical engineering, including biomedical image processing, patient-specific vascular geometry reconstruction, conducting numerical simulations of blood flow, and simulating the deposition of inhaled drug particles in the lower respiratory tract. He is the author of 16 scientific papers published in renowned JCR-listed journals and scientific monographs.
Research profile and research directions
His research interests focus on developing personalized numerical analyses of blood flow in geometries reconstructed from biomedical imaging. The expertise he is developing could form the basis for a new diagnostic method used in hospitals to analyze cardiovascular diseases and plan clinical procedures. For example, advanced in-silico analyses make it possible to predict changes in blood flow hemodynamics following specific surgical or endovascular procedures. Dr. Zbigniew Tyfa received funding under the LIDER XIV competition to carry out a project whose main goal is to create a new tool that will assist in selecting personalized endovascular treatment techniques for cerebral aneurysms. He maintains close ties with the business community and engages in scientific cooperation with teaching hospitals in the United States, Australia, Germany, and Japan. He has served as both the project manager and principal investigator for numerous research projects.
Honours and recognition from the scientific community
Dr. Zbigniew Tyfa received an award for his PhD dissertation titled „Automated system for the blood vessel geometry modelling and blood flow analysis in their networks”, carried out in Institute of Turbomachinery in Lodz University of Technology. He is a member of the European Society for Artificial Organs and one of the winners of the “Indonesia Inventors Day” competition held
as part of the World Invention and Technology Expo in Indonesia.
