Education strategy of Lodz University of Technology for 2025–2030
I. General assumptions. Vision of education.
In 2030, Lodz University of Technology will be among the leading universities in Poland and Europe, offering equal access to high-quality, inclusive education. The University will create opportunities for lifelong learning, promote a culture of teaching excellence, the recognition and comparability of qualifications, and support academic mobility between renowned higher education institutions.
Lodz University of Technology will ensure diverse forms and pathways of education, enabling learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and competences necessary to meet the challenges of the contemporary world, so that they can pursue their professional and personal ambitions, engage in society, and gain satisfaction from their academic development.
The implementation of the following strategic objectives will be possible thanks to the active participation of students and doctoral candidates, as well as all the University’s research and teaching staff, and through cooperation with graduates and social partners.
II. General objective and specific objectives of education at Lodz University of Technology.
In line with the Lodz University of Technology Strategy for 2025–2030, the general objective related to education is:
the development of an educational model for students and doctoral candidates that prepares graduates to respond to the dynamically changing needs of the socio-economic environment, which will be achieved through the implementation of the following specific objectives:
Continuous improvement of academic teachers' skills in modern teaching methods, current state of knowledge, technological development, and trends in science.
To this end, Lodz University of Technology will:
- effectively support and make use of the academic potential of the University’s staff in the teaching process, including the achievements of doctoral candidates;
- effectively support the academic development of the University staff in line with the latest trends in science and technology;
- provide staff with opportunities for developing competences that foster innovative teaching, through access to training and the development of infrastructure conducive to active teaching methods;
- support the development of teaching methods in which the learner actively co-creates the educational process, including providing methods for verifying learning outcomes that foster an active attitude on the part of the learner and engage them in the assessment process;
- provide support and develop channels of effective communication between all participants in the educational process and create tools for its evaluation;
- draw on the best national, European, and global practices.
Improvement of the teaching offer, including complementary forms of education, in response to the challenges of the socio-economic environment.
To this end, Lodz University of Technology will:
- offer education based on sound scientific foundations that supports the development of critical thinking skills;
- systematically expand its educational offer to include postgraduate studies, specialist courses, and training, including those completed with micro-credentials;
- ensure a strong focus on interdisciplinarity and cross-disciplinary education, in response to key societal needs and civilizational challenges;
- develop institutional mechanisms for cooperation with the external environment in the area of education, with particular emphasis on activities such as the design and evaluation of study programs, implementation of competitions for students and doctoral candidates, organization of conferences, and patronage of selected initiatives;
- develop formats and mechanisms for cooperation with the education sector, in particular within the school education system, including the popularization of science and the promotion of studies at Lodz University of Technology;
- ensure that education at all levels and in all forms provides graduates with competences valued on the labor market and will monitor graduates’ career paths;
- make future competences mandatory elements of study programs, such as digital and social competences, correlated with the conscious shaping of one’s professional and personal development, including in various professional and social contexts;
- support and develop a culture of evaluation of the quality of education by defining clear objectives and criteria for quality evaluation, conducting systematic evaluation studies, communicating evaluation results, and implementing recommendations arising from evaluation activities;
- take an active part in national and international accreditations and rankings.
Strengthening talent management through the individualization of educational pathways for students and doctoral candidates.
To this end, Lodz University of Technology will:
- ensure that students and doctoral candidates have access to information and/or mentoring support, enabling them to make the best possible, individualized choices of educational pathways, taking into account their personal and professional situation;
- ensure mobility between institutions and programs, using the modularization of education to accumulate competences towards a full qualification;
- develop and apply procedures for the recognition of learning outcomes and qualifications of learners acquired in other educational contexts, as well as tools for the recognition and validation of formal, non-formal, and informal learning outcomes;
- create opportunities for hybrid learning, providing appropriate infrastructure and training support.
Supporting the scientific development of students and doctoral candidates, with attention to interdisciplinarity and internationalization.
To this end, Lodz University of Technology will:
- actively participate in joint initiatives implementing the European higher education strategy, focusing on strengthening the European dimension of education and innovation linked to scientific research, as well as striving for teaching excellence and increasing competitiveness in the global market;
- develop the offer of courses and study programs in English;
- develop diverse forms of academic mobility for students and doctoral candidates – both as a sending and a host institution – including virtual mobility, striving to make international exchange an integral part of the educational process;
- support and promote the acquisition of professional experience by academic staff at foreign universities and research institutes as part of the development of teaching and research skills.
Increasing student participation in research conducted at the University and intensifying the acquisition of practical experience by students outside the University.
To this end, Lodz University of Technology will:
- develop a systemic approach to involving students in research conducted at the University, including by promoting tools that enable formalization of such involvement (e.g. Student Scientific Volunteering);
- create educational pathways integrated with research projects carried out at faculties and in other organizational units of the University;
- develop institutional mechanisms of cooperation with the socio-economic environment, with particular emphasis on activities such as involving practitioners in teaching, developing tutoring and mentoring, implementing internships and placements, and joint projects;
- support and organize spaces for cooperation between the University and the socio-economic environment, for example through Open Days, co-organization of Job Fairs, etc.
