Out of hundreds of entries to the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2021 competition from all over the world, a total of 38 projects qualified for the finals, including one from Poland, developed by students and doctoral students of Lodz University of Technology.

In the 19th edition of the international competition, Poland will be represented by the Intelligent Hives team from the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, selected in the semi-finals.

TUL project is one of six taking part in the Earth category. The Intelligent Hives application enables a beekeeper to supervise an apiary from any place and at any time using mobile devices such as a smartphone, tablet or computer. In addition, it makes it easy to detect diseases, swarming, carry out hive inspections, plan tasks and keep records of bee colony diseases.

As the initiator of the project, TUL student, Sebastian Górecki, explains

In recent years we can observe a decline in the honeybee population, which shows that preventing bee extinction is not easy. Pollination by bees ensures reproduction and growth of many plant species, therefore the lack of these beneficial insects will affect not only beekeepers, but all of us, in order to meet this problem, the Intelligent Hives solution has been created.
