The Romanian Politehnica University of Timisoara (PUT) awarded (28 May) an honorary doctorate to Professor Jan Awrejcewicz, an outstanding mechanical specialist, head of the Department of Automation, Biomechanics and Mechatronics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Lodz University of Technology. This is the seventh honorary title that the Professor has received in his scientific career.


Professor Jan Awrejcewicz is a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, an honorary doctor of the University of Technology and Humanities in Bielsko-Biała, Częstochowa University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, Kielce University of Technology and Kharkiv University of Technology.

The Rector of PUT, Prof. Florin Dragan, while conferring Prof. Jan Awrejcewicz with the title of doctor honoris causa, stressed:

- Our university is fully convinced that we honour a researcher with above-average scientific, didactic, managerial and professional achievements. We are happy to accept an outstanding personality into the academic family and we express our conviction that today's celebration is the beginning of a new chapter of future cooperation.

The ceremony took place online. The Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik said: - Prof. Jan Awrejcewicz belongs to the group of the most active scientists, he has published many important publications, widely cited in the world. At the last session of the Senate of Lodz University of Technology I had the pleasure to grant the professor a special award for the highest number of citations. His articles and research cover various areas of science related to mechanics, applied mathematics, biomechanics, automation and physics.

Established in 1920, Politehnica University of Timisoara is one of the largest technical universities in Central and Eastern Europe. It educates over 12,000 students at 10 faculties.
