Biodegradable packaging materials developed by a team led by Assoc. Prof. Eng. Anna Masek, TUL Prof. from the Institute of Polymer and Dye Technology at the Faculty of Chemistry at TUL, received an award at the 23rd edition of the Polish Product of the Future competition.

Lodz University of Technology received an award in the category "Product of the Future of Institutions of Higher Education and Science".

As the author of the solution, who received a check worth 25 thousand PLN, explains:

What is new in the developed technology is obtaining biodegradable packaging materials from aliphatic polyesters, stabilised with substances of plant origin from the flavonoid group. The awarded product will allow to reduce the amount of waste in the environment and withdraw carcinogenic substances used in packaging.

The innovative technology is addressed to manufacturers of polymer products, preparing e.g., packaging for: cosmetics, medicines, food products. It can also be used in products such as: toys for children and other small-size polymer products, such as toothbrushes, disposable dishes, cutlery, bottles, cups.

The competition was organised by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and the National Centre for Research and Development.
