The Polish Patent Office has published the 2021 Report. Lodz University of Technology continues to rank second in Poland, with 121 domestic and foreign patents granted. First place in the ranking went to Lublin University of Technology, with 136 patents and third place to Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, which filed 118 patents.

The number of patents obtained by Lodz University of Technology in 2021, as reported by the Polish Patent Office includes domestic and foreign patents, as well as validations of foreign patents at the PPO for inventions filed also at external patent offices. 103 of the 121 patents have been obtained by TUL faculties and they can be distributed as follows, reports TUL Patent Attorneys' Office.

And so, the highest number of patents - 24 - has been granted to Faculty of Chemistry, followed by Faculty of Material Technology and Textile Design, with 16 patents. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has obtained 15 domestic patents, 5 patents at foreign patent offices including 2 European patents and 1 each in Italy, Germany and Spain. 12 patents have been granted to Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences. The Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering and Centre of Papermaking and Printing each hold 10 patents. Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering has obtained 8 patents, and Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering 3 patents.

A total of 17 technical universities, 9 traditional universities, 5 natural/agricultural universities and 5 medical universities were included in this year's Polish Patent Office ranking. Among nearly 50 entities there are also 4 institutes of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, 3 state research institutes and 3 institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. More than half of the granted patents were for inventions developed at universities or research institutes.
